The remote cause of WW 1 was territorial / personal ambitions.
The immediate cause was the assasination of the crown prince ( heir apparent) of Austria, in Sarajevo, in Bosnia, in 1914 which later became part of Yugoslavia, untill the disintegration of Yugoslavia in 1993.
Germany declared war on Bosnia and Britain in turn declared war on Germany , other countries now joined either on the German side or on the side of Britain.The war lasted from 1914 to 1918.
The USA did not join the war untill 1917 when the Germans sank US submarines.
Some analysts refer to the 1st WW as ” European tribal wars”.
Germany was defeated so also was the Turkish Ottoman empire, that ruled over some East European countries like Bulgaria , then Yugoslavia, Romania etc.
The moslems and mosques still seen in those countries are relics of the Turkish Ottoman rule.
From the Ashes of the Turkish Ottoman empire, emerged the modem country , Turkey , spear headed by Kamel Atta Turks regarded as Father of modern Turkey.
After the war the league of nations was formed in 1919, spear headed by Woodrow Wilson , then US president, to foster world peace., the league of nations could not achieve world peace and therefore could not prevent the 2nd WW.
The emergence of Adolf Hitler as German Chancellor in 1933 marked the beginning of the biuld up to the 2nd WW, again territorial / personal ambition was the remote cause of the war.
In 1939 , Germany attacked Poland , Britain who had a non aggression pact with Poland declared war on Germany.Italy , joined on the side of Germany, France joined on the side of Britain.
In 1940 Germany carried out a surprise attack on the USSR, despite a non aggression pact, USSR joined the war on the British side ( allied forces) analysts refer to the German attack as Hitler’s most costly mistake and the tide started to turn against Germany . the attack was code named operation Barbarossa there were several battles , notably that.of Stalingrad where the bitter Russian winter killed many German soldiers , Germany found itself fighting on 2 fronts.
In 1940 the Germans over ran France and set up capital at Vichy.
On June 6th 1944 , allied forces landed in Normandy in Northern France to begin the liberation of France.
On the 7th December 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour , the USA declared war on Japan and then joined the war on the side of the allied forces , Japan fought on the side of the axis forces..
Italy was defeated in 1943 and surrendered, Benito Mussolini ifs Fascist leader was murdedred by Italian partisans.
Germany was defeated and surrendered in April 1945, Hitler was said to have committed suicide in Berlin ,the war ended in Europe.
Japan was still fighting, attacking China, korea, etc.
In may 1945 president Franklin’ Roosevelt of USA died suddenly , his vice Harry Truman, became president and ordered the bombing of Japan courtesy of the newly created atomic bomb as a way of ending the war and also testing the atomic bomb. on August 6th 1945 atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima again on 9th August it was dropped on Nagasaki.
Japan surrendered and the war ended.
After the German defeat , Germany was occupied by Britain , USA, France, this parts later became West Germany with capital at Bonn , the part occupied by USSR became East Germany,with capital at East Berlin, the old German capital Berlin was divided by a wall fence (iron curtains )into East and West Berlin.
East and West Germany reunited in 1989 and Berlin became the capital again.
The world again became divided along ideological lines ( communism vs capitalism).
Defence alliances /pacts were formed . The North Atlantic Treaty Organization ( NATO)Was formed led by the US, with most capitalists countries as members . The Warsaw pact was formed and led by USSR, with most communists countries as members.
The disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991 marked the end of the cold war.
In terms of military , ideology and economy a new world order is emerging.
The United Nations was formed from the ashes of the league of Nations in 1945 to further foster world peace.
