Toto LGC Boss Reads Riot Act to herders over invasion of crop


 

The Executive Chairman Toto local government area of Nasarawa State, Hon. Aliyu Abdullahi Tashas has taken a proactive measure to avoid looming farmers/herders clash in the area.

 

The council boss has expressed his dissatisfaction with the activities of herders who continued to fed their cows with crops and urged to desist even as he said the law will not take it lightly with anyone caught.

The council boss who was represented by Vice Chairman Hon. Abubakar Haruna Kwanakis told farmers/herders during security meeting held at the council secretariat, said there are widespread evidences against their illegitimate activities.

The Chairman said the meeting became imperative following series of petitions from farmers whose farms were invaded by herders leading to destruction of crops.

A press statement issued by Yahaya Idris Toto, Senior Special Assistant, SSA, Media & Communications office of the Executive Chairman said the council boss gave the warning while holding security meeting which had in attendance community leaders, farmers and herders within Toto LG.

“I am using this medium to pass this warning to erring herders to respect the relative peace in Toto LG by ensuring they follow the rule of ranching activities in the State.”

“Your continued invasion of crop has raised tension, this will lead to crisis between herders/farmers and only way to avoid this, you must respect the law of the land.” Tashas stated.

The Chairman said he has order security personnels to go after offenders and prosecute them in order to serve as deterrent to others.

According to him, his administration will continues to work towards sustainable peace through involvement of stakeholders in the scheme of things.

Zokutu village head, Mr Sunday and representatives of herders Alhaji Dogara Jibrin Ardor lauded the council boss peace initiative and pledged to ensure their subjects complied with chief security’s directive.

Also speaking, Divisional Police Officer represented by DCO SP Zaks Wambai urged herders to respect constituted authorities as to avoid looming crisis, He assured the council boss of his readiness to enforce the new order.
