The Acting Executive Director, Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development, PIBCID, Akande Rachael Remilekun, says this is the time to make curbing issues of Gender Based Violence topmost priority by citizens.
The PIBCID Acting Executive Director made the call at the sideline of a two day train the trainer workshop on sexual/gender base violence/Database Management system organized by the Kogi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with Community Initiative to Promote Peace with support by Mercy Corps, held at the Children Amusement Park, Lokoja, praised the collaboration between the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and Civil Society Organisations in the State.
While pointing out that the train the trainer workshop for CSOs working on GBV is timely and could not have come at a better time, disclosed that GBV is now everywhere, in schools, homes, work place and the society in general, reason why efforts at curbing the scourge has become necessary.
While expressing worries that the greatest threat to fighting GBV is people not knowing there right, when they are abused, attributed it to ignorance, reason why the violence is not reported and justice not metted to the victims and survivors.
The Acting Executive Director advocated for aggressive sensitization in schools, religious houses, and amongst citizens, called on the people to strive to tell there stories to enable the tracking of GBV.
With the training, the Acting Executive Director maintained that CSOs in the State are now better poisoned and coordinated to report incidences of GBV on the central dashboard, said the development would enable victims and survivors get justice.
The Acting Executive Director PIBCID expressed the determination of the organization to continue to advocate for a better society, pointing out that over the years the organization has stood up for victims and survivors of GBV.
