The Minister For Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Pauline Tallen, have tasked Nigerians to make reporting all forms of Gender Based Violence a priority, pointing out that it would help in providing justice for victims and survivors.
Mrs Tallen disclosed that when GBV are reported it would enable voices of those affected to be heard with a view to providing them justice, described non reporting and in some cases under reporting as major factors affecting the fight against GBV.
Mrs. Tallen made the disclosure on the day two of the two day train the trainer workshop on sexual/gender base violence/Database Management system organized by the Kogi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with Community Initiative to Promote Peace with support by Mercy Corps, held at the Children Amusement Park, Lokoja.
The Minister who was represented at the training by Sunday Sanusi Agbabiaka, National Data Manager, GBV, said the training followed the matching orders from President Mohammadu Buhari towards ensuring zero tolerance for violence, lamented that over the years absence of Data and method of reporting violence has remained an issue.
The Minister explained that the worrying trend of violence in the society has made the training necessary, said it is expected that the training would equip participants on having the understanding to report cases of violence and the use of GBV dashboard, with the State expected to have a Central situation room.
He said when established the situation room will be used for collating Data, analysis, which will enable for decision making, listed ignorance, culture, educational background and poverty as some major causes of GBV.
The Minister called on Nigerians to speak out, report GBV, assured that it would enable the tracking of offenders with a view to providing justice for victims and survivors, expressed the determination of President Mohammadu Buhari to having a zero tolerance to GBV.
