In absolute deference to the senatorial bid of the former Edo state governor, comrade Adams Oshiomole, and also in the spirit of a good team player, Hon Abubakar Momoh has shelved his senatorial ambition and, instead, opted to run for the House of Representatives’ seat, Etsako federal constituency.
One of the factors that swayed those at the parley into persuading Hon Momoh to scale down his senatorial ambition was the need to accord the former governor the respect he duly deserves as the APC leader in Edo North.
Sources privy to the final resolutions adopted at the parley disclosed that Hon Momoh was practically lobbied to forgo his senatorial ambition so as not to rupture the cordial relationship and mutual respect which exists between him and Comrade Oshiomole, who had just declared his senatorial bid.
Though he was yet to officially declare his senatorial bid, many Edo North observers already knew he was bidding for the appropriate time to unveil his interest.
Recall that in 2019, on the PDP platform, Hon Momoh narrowly lost the Edo North senatorial election to Sen Francis Alimikhena of the APC.
Thereafter, he, along with hundreds of his followers defected to the APC, where the political stature of the two – time House of Reps member and popular grassroot politician has grown in leaps and bounds
Any moment from now, he is expected to formally declare his interest in the Etsako federal constituency race according to some of his associates who confided in our reporter.
Interestingly, he is said to have concluded his consultations with critical stakeholders in the APC and has secured serious buy-in as far as the project is concerned.
“What remains is for him to mount the podium and formally declare his House of Reps interest, in the full glare of his loyalists, APC leaders and beloved Etsako people.
Hon Abubakar Momoh, from Etsako East LGA, is one of the few politicians in Etsako who has brought the dividends of democracy to the door step of the electorates in all the offices held.
