With a heavy heart and very deep concerns, I wish to on behalf of the people of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, commiserate with our brothers and sisters, particularly in Egbe and Odo Ere communities, Yagba West LGA and the entire Okunland, over the unfortunate and dastardly armed robbery incidents which allegedly led to the painful deaths of a number of persons and destruction of properties.
Indeed, the sad and shocking armed robbery attacks on some commercial banks in Egbe and Odo Ere towns, which aside leading to loss of lives and destruction of properties, throwing the innocent and peaceful people of these two towns and surrounding communities into total fear, and confusion can best be described as yet, another invasion on Okunland. That the recent armed robbery attacks on commercial banks in Egbe and Odo Ere happened over a year after similar incident occurred in Isanlu, Yagba East LGA, gives cause for concerns. Also, noting the recent spate of growing nefarious activities of marauding unknown gunmen in, within and around various towns and communities in the entire Okunland, has elicited genuine worries, anxiety and apprehension amongst our people.
It is outrightly shocking that a group of people with evil, terrible minds, satanic attitudes and destructive mindsets will carry out such cruel, barbaric and animalistic attacks on Egbe, Odo Ere, and other communities in Okunland, whose passion for hard work, and commitment to peace and unity are not only well known but well documented.
These heinous crimes and brutal occurrences, where the armed marauders purportedly operated for hours, are outrightly callous, deeply inhuman and acts of vicious wickedness at its zenith. That these demon possessed charlatans and senseless armed robbers could operate with such audacity, unimaginable disregard and disrespect for human lives in Egbe and Odo Ere, should be totally condemned by all and sundry.
From the respective accounts of people in Egbe and Odo Ere; who were in these communities on the day of these robbery incidents, alluding and confirming the sophistry of the weapons and armaments used by the armed invaders for their operations, it gives further cause for serious concerns and worries. With the yuletide season fast approaching; a period when, as typically done, Okun people from across the nation and world travel to our respective communities, to celebrate the festivities with kith and kin, the security of lives and properties during and after the festive period becomes more germane and necessary.
Further to this, I wish to make a clarion call and passionate appeal to the government, Nigerian Police, and other relevant security, intelligence agencies to be more proactive in their operations, as they seek to fulfill their roles, mandate and targets in securing the lives and properties of every community in Okunland, Kogi West District, and the entire state. Also, while commending respective agencies for all their efforts in tackling the plethora of growing security challenges in Okunland and the entire Kogi state, I implore them to ensure that the perpetrators of the Egbe and Odo Ere robbery incidents are not only apprehended in good time, but made to face necessary prosecution and judgement.
Of note is the courageous and bold efforts of various vigilante groups and hunters in tackling the negative activities of armed robbers, armed bandits and such elements in different communities within Okunland. With the growing rate of these negative incidents in Okunland and across the state, it is in order to advise for better collaboration and synergy between and amongst different security agencies in terms of intelligence gathering, information sharing and operations. It is instructive to stress that these security challenges can be better curtailed and expunged from from our communities and across Kogi state when there is unanimity of strategies, approach and operations by critical security agencies and stakeholders.
Finally, as I join numerous others to identify and commiserate with the people of Egbe and Odo Ere communities and Yagba West LGA, over this painful incidents, I pray that God Almighty will stretch forth His hand of protection and preservation over the entire communities in Okunland. Also, I pray that God in His infinite mercies, will put an end to any and every armed activities in all communities across Okunland, and Kogi state, Amen.
