
Appeal has gone to the various transport unions in Kwara State to join hand with the security agencies in the State to deter crimes and criminal elements before, during and after the festive period.
The Kwara State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Iskilu Ayinla Makinde stated this during a stakeholders meeting held at the Command’s headquarters in Ilorin on Tuesday
According to the spokesman of the NSCDC in the State Babawale Zaid Afolabi, the Commandant, who was represented by the Command’s head of the crisis management department Odeniran Esther Iyabo charged the transport unions representatives who attended the meeting to close ranks with the security agencies in the area of intelligence gathering, detection of the movement of arms and ammunitions and movement of illicit and hard drugs among other incriminating items.
” The State Commandant wants the transport unions to work together with the NSCDC and other security agencies in order to reduce crime and criminality to the barest minimum in the State and we believe their their total supports will go a long way in achieving our aims and objectives” Babawale disclosed.
The Commandant appealed to the unions to ensure that their vehicles, tricycles and Okada are good condition and road worthy in order to ensure safety of the drivers and d passengers before, during and after the yuletide and new year festivity.
Among the representatives of the unions that attended the parley were National Union of Road Transport Workers( NURTW), Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria ( RTEAN), and Tricycle Operators Association of Nigeria( TOAN)
