Four dead as another building collapses in Lagos

Four people are reportedly killed on Wednesday following the collapse of another building in Lagos State.

The two storey building at Flowermill Estate, Magbon, in Olorunda LCDA, Badagry, Lagos, collapsed in the afternoon.

The building was said to have been located behind a dwelling structure.

The four dead bodies were later taken to Badagry General Hospital, it was learnt.

Five workers with varying degress of injuries were rescued alive from the rubble, while the National Emergency Management Agency said the injured workers had been taken to Catholic hospital at Magbon, for treatment.

Acting Head of NEMA operations in Lagos, Ibrahim Farinloye, explained the families and relations of the affected victims had been identified.
Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, was quoted in a statement to have said that some victims had been recovered from the rubble.

She said, “There has been a reported case of a storey building collapse at Sunny Filled, Flour Mills, Estate, Magbon, Badagry, Lagos.”

“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Badagry Station had rescued 5 (five) victims from the under-construction building while concerted efforts are ongoing to rescue remaining trapped victims.

“The victims which are mainly construction workers are however rescued with varying degrees of injury but in stable condition and been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

“However, 4 (four) adults male have been recovered (unconscious) thus far as the Nigerian Police, Morogbo Division and the Community dwellers are complementing the efforts of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.”

It could be recalled that a 21-storey sky scrapper building at 44 BCD Gerard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos had collapsed few weeks ago, while no fewer than 47 people, including the developer of the structure, Femi Osibona, were recovered dead from the rubble.
