Edo School Of Nursing Denies Admission To Best Students IN Qualifying Exams

BY IKHILI EBALU, BENIN CITY.

The recently remodelled Edo State School of Nursing is once again in eyes of the storm, with the prospect of further escalating if the brewing crisis is mishandled by the school’s management board

Parents whose wards sat and passed the competitive and rigorous entrance examination of the school are squaring for a face off unless the policy which deprived their wards of admission is reversed.

Some of the candidates who scored between 76 and 80 percent In the qualifying exams and who were outrightly denied admission on the basis that they applied for admission whilst awaiting their NECO results, are not happy with the development.

The NECO results was, however, released a day after the school’s scheduled interview session for the successful candidates

An affected candidate, Marvellous Madamedon, who came in from Delta State to write the examination and was among those with awaiting result, with a score of 76 percent In the qualifying exam, said he is yet to recover from the shocker of rejection he and others experienced in the hands of the school, after going through a rigorous and harrowing encounter

Narrating his ordeal, Madamedon recalled how his joy turned into sorrow, stating he got the shocking news on arrival at the school for the scheduled interview on a Saturday, clutching his NECO result, which was released the following week, and in which he also passed in flying colours.

He added his mother accompanied him on the harrowing trip, adding once it became manifestly clear the school had taken a stance on those awaiting results, he broke down and burst into tears.

Quite a lot of candidates were affected by the “awaiting results policy”

In a chat with one of the principal officers of the school who chose to remain anonymous, those awaiting results were not supposed to sit for the examination ab initio.

He mentioned further that the examination advert was explicit in the sense that candidates awaiting their results were advised not to apply.

In addition, he stated that candidates got their notices of invitation through the state government portal, stressing the portal operates independently of the school, adding the school was helpless in such a situation.
The principal officer submission was faulted by an observer who claimed that sitting for qualifying exams into higher institution by applicants is in order.
According to him, the examination bodies in Nigeria has scheduled period of releasing results which school should wait for instead of denying the successful students admission.
In a reaction the public Relations Officer of Edo state ministry of health, Mrs Edokpayi Adesuwa in an telephone interview said she is not aware of the situation.
