IYD: Youths urged to embrace farming towards becoming self reliant – Mrs. Henry Hellen, ED. ACHOZI Foundation


 

A Youth summit that provides platform for awakening youth consciousness towards becoming self-reliant and productive has been held in Osisi Community of Adavi LGA of Kogi State with a call on Youths to embrace farming towards becoming self reliant.

 

The Executive Director of Improve ACHOZI Foundation (IAF), Mrs. Henry Hellen made the disclosure at the 2021 Youth Summit on Preventing Violent Extremism in Kogi State, with the theme: Youth Innovation in Peace Building Through Climate Change Mitigation. The Summit is part of activities to commemorate of the 2021 International Youth Day.

 

The Summit was organised by ActionAid Nigeria in partnership with Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development (PIBCID), held the Youth Summit under the “System and Structure Strengthening Approach against Radicalisation to Violent Extremism (SARVE II) with funding from the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund, (GCERF),

Mrs. Henry Hellen tasked the Youths to appreciate their potentials and contribute towards building a peaceful society, urged the youths to be pro- active in their response towards increased food production, safe planet and define new technologies, innovations geared towards reducing food insecurity that will improve good health.

Mrs. Henry Hellen urged the youth at the Grassroot Communities to engage in youth communal farming of food, cash crops or animal  and increase fruit/ value tree planting in the community before the end of December, 2021.

Speaking at the summit, the community leader pledged to support the youth with land space to kick start the food production process.

The Youths of Osisi community in their response assured that they will take ownership and explore partnership and opportunities of engaging in farming activities for food sufficiency and in providing gainful employment for teeming youths of the area.

The Youth Summit held simultaneously in all 12 SARVE II project communities in Kogi State, namely: Ugbedomagwu, Ujagba, Tajimi, Ette, Koton-Karfe, Osisi, Osaragada/Aku, Inata, Ukowa, Emekutu and Abache, in Lokoja, Okehi, Adavi, Ankpa, Igalamela-Odolu, Kogi-Koto LGAs.
