Jamata Bridge: Motorists Raise Concern Over Slow Pace of Work …. Want Contractor To Expedite Action


 

The Federal Government has been advised to expedite work through it contractor handling the ongoing repair works at the Murtala Mohammed Bridge.

The need to expedite action on the maintenance work motorists explain is to avoid the traffic challenges and gridlock faced by motorists Particularly in the festive season.

Speaking with a section of motorists plying the road, Usman Ichaba, said the excitement at commencement of the repairs has died down following the slow pace of work.

Also Speaking, Victor Lamide, urged the Federal Government to make the maintenance work a priority as further delay may cause untold hardship and delay for motorists during the Christmas period.

Peter Uyem, another driver said the consequences of delaying the Murtala bridge repairs would be unimaginable if efforts is not made to complete the work, recalled experience where travellers spent night on the freeway bridge.

All the Motorists who spoke with Thenigerianpost, said the need for the contractor handling the repairs to make full deployment and to hasten the repairs has become very necessary as the water level no longer pose any challenge.

Besides, the motorists added that with the ember months and Christmas forthcoming, travellers traveling to there villages for the Yuletide would be faced with untold hardship traveling from the North or the South added that not fixing the road through the ongoing repairs would be a major challenge and key for traffic as one carriage way may not be sufficient for the heavy traffic.

Speaking with the Kogi State Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr Abubakar Ohere, also appealed to the Federal Government to harken to the cry of the motorists.

He equally buttressed the fears of the motorists, but expressed optimism that the Federal Government would hear the people’s cry and do the needful towards avoiding the usual traffic, gridlock associated the use of one carriage way.
