In its determination to win the forthcoming Local Government Council Elections , the Kogi state Social Democratic Party SDP has presented certificates of Return to aspirants who have successfully scaled through the state Independent Electoral Commission Kosiec screening of their nomination forms.
The Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Mouktar Atima who presented the certificates to the candidates at the meeting of the State Executive Working Committee SEWC of the party on Saturdayin Lokoja, charged the beneficiaries to work hard for the successful poll.
He noted that the party has been rated very high as all the candidates presented for screening came out without a scratch, adding that the party is Fielding 21 chairmanship , 21 vice chairmanship candidates and 239 Councillorship positions.
Atima who was full of praise and adulation for the reselience and commitment of the members of the party who could not be swayed in the face of paucity of funds and threats from the opposition party , called on them to still remain resolute and work as a family to win sizeable numbers of seats in the December 12,2020 polls.
“Working together as a family is so critical to the party has we have all it takes to create upsets and come out victorious in the election,. I called on our members and party supporters not to be deterred by whatever antics the opposition may adopt to weaken their rising popularity” He encouraged.
He assured the candidates that the party’s superlative structures at the grassroots has made her the darling of the masses , saying the overwhelming acceptance of the party across the state has created fears in the opposition.
He called on the State Independent Electoral Commission (Kosiec) to create a level playing ground for all the parties , saying all eyes are on them to deliver free, fair and Credible elections.
In their separate comments, the state Secretary Dr. Arome Okeme and financial secretary Hon. Reuben Odaudu congratulated the successful candidates and urged them to work
harder to win all positions the party is Fielding candidates.
They advise them to work as a team , without which the party may not register appreciable performance , calling on the lovers of democracy within and outside the party to extend their goodwill for the party to succeed in the coming elections.
The chairmanship candidate for Ajaokuta Local Government Council, Hon Siaka Abdulrahman is optimistic of winning the election saying, his pedigree of being a grass rooted politician stands him out among candidates of the other parties.
According to him , having contested for House of Assembly in 2015 under the platform of PDP and in 2016, lobbied for caretaker council chairmanship , he is in a better standing to carry the day as his people are solidly behind his aspiration.
He insisted that the popularity of his father of being the first pharmacist from the area and a holder of Pempozi of Ajaokuta title will work for his success , asking for the electoral umpire to remain apolitical to create conducive environment for all the parties.
