By joshua Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman’s Family Loses Matriarch, Hajiya Habiba
The family of Distinguished Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman of African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Monday night lost their matriarch, Hajiya Habiba Abatemi-Usman, the Wife of the Late Alhaji Umar Abatemi Usman, former Deputy Governor of old Kwara state.
A statement issued by the family and made available to newsmen by Mr. Michael Jegede, Media Aide to Senator Abatemi-Usman reads:
Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un
(“Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.” Qur’an 2:156)
With total submission to the divine will of Almighty Allah (SWT) and a heart full of grief, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, matriarch, and pillar of strength, Hajiya Habiba Abatemi-Usman- the Wife of the Late Alhaji Umar Abatemi Usman, Former Deputy Governor of old Kwara state and the cherished stepmother of Distinguished Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman.
Hajiya Habiba returned to her Creator tonight, Monday, October 26, 2026, at approximately 9:00 PM, at the African Medical Centre of Excellence (managed by King’s College Hospital, London) in Abuja.
Her passing is a monumental loss not only to the Abatemi-Usman family, who have lost a nurturing mother and a fountain of wisdom, but also to the entire country and the Nigeria family. Throughout her life, she exemplified grace, compassion, humility, and devotion to faith and family. Her warmth and maternal blessings will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
Funeral (Jana’iza) Arrangements: In accordance with Islamic rites, her funeral prayer (Salatul Jana’iza) is scheduled to hold as follows:
Date: Tuesday, October 27, 2026
Time: Immediately after Zuhur Prayer (approx. 1:30 PM)
Venue: The National Mosque (Central Masjid), Abuja
