As Abdullahi Adamu Bows Out Of Lokoja LGA: He Will Be Remembered As A Comrade Chairman Who Proved It Is Not How Long, But How Well

By Oshio Baba.

When Comrade Abdullahi Adamu assumed leadership of Lokoja LGA, first as Caretaker Committee Chairman and later as the elected Executive Chairman, many saw a young, unassuming politician. After he hands over what majority described as a successful tenure, history will remember him as a principled, impactful and people-centred leader who left indelible marks that will stand the test of time.

From the very first day in office, he adopted the name Comrade, and true to his words and actions, he lived it to the letter. His was not leadership from a distance, it was leadership felt in the streets, in the wards, in palaces, in places of worship and in the market.

Comrade Abdullahi Adamu brought candour, humility and uncommon respect to the office of the LGA Chairman. In an era where power often disconnects leaders from the people, he remained accessible, listening and consultative. From traditional rulers, religious leaders, community elders, women, youth groups, traders, to political actors across divides, everyone who crossed his path has a positive story to tell about him. That is the hallmark of true leadership.

His footprint cuts across the entire socio-economic fabric of Lokoja LGA:

1. Peace and Unity: He restored confidence in local administration by running an all-inclusive government, bridging political divides and carrying traditional institutions along. Lokoja remained peaceful, united and stable under his watch.

2. Human Capital and Welfare: He prioritized staff welfare, regular engagement with workers, youth empowerment, and support for women groups, understanding that a metropolitan LGA like Lokoja thrives on its people.

3. Sanitation and Urban Renewal: He gave Lokoja a face-lift through sustained environmental sanitation, market reorganization, and support for the beautification of the state capital.

4. Education and Grassroots Development: He intervened in schools, supported community self-help projects, and responded to distress calls from communities across the 10 wards with prompt attention.

5. Security and Governance: He strengthened community policing, synergy with security agencies and traditional vigilante structures to protect lives and property in the LGA.

He did all of this with uncommon simplicity. No noise, no flamboyance, just results. He has proven clearly that it is not how long a man stays in office, but how well he serves.

Comrade Abdullahi Adamu possesses the qualities of a leader of tomorrow. Young, upwardly mobile, mission-driven, visionary, calm under pressure, respectful yet firm, principled yet flexible. He is the modern-day Council Chairman that every LGA desires – where leadership is not just announced, but felt.

Indeed, this is not the last that will be heard of him. He belongs to the class of young politicians with mission and vision, whose best years of service are ahead. The political space should watch out for him, because his journey has only just begun.

He will be greatly missed. Missed for his maturity, missed for his wisdom beyond his age, missed for his open-door policy, missed for bringing dignity and honour back to the office of Lokoja LGA Chairman, missed for being a bridge-builder, a team player, a comrade in word and deed.

He has left big shoes, no doubt.

We are however optimistic that the new Executive Chairman of Lokoja LGA will fit into those shoes positively and run with the baton, to consolidate on the foundation laid and further position Lokoja LGA as a true metropolitan council befitting of a state capital.

Comrade Abdullahi Adamu came, he served, he delivered, and he leaves with his head high.

Lokoja will remember him.
