GROUP ALLEGES LOPSIDED PROJECT DISTRIBUTION, CALLS FOR POWER ROTATION TO KOGI WEST IN 2027

A political pressure group, DE Group, has called for power rotation to Kogi West Senatorial District in the 2027 governorship election, alleging uneven distribution of projects across the state in the last 12 years.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja, the group claimed that Okene Local Government Area had benefited from disproportionate concentration of projects including township roads, the Etahi erosion control project, the Reference Hospital Okene, Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara, and the Ohinoyi palace project.
The group put the cumulative value of projects sited in Okene at over N35 billion and contrasted it with what it described as poor state of roads and health facilities in parts of Kogi West and Kogi East, citing the Kabba-Egbe road, Idah-Ajaka road and general hospitals in Kabba and Idah.
The group further appealed to stakeholders in Kogi East and Kogi Central to support a shift of power to Kogi West in 2027 in the interest of equity, balance and inclusion, arguing that Kogi West is yet to produce a governor since the creation of the state.
As at press time, official figures for the projects mentioned and comparative data for other LGAs have not been independently verified. Efforts to get reaction from the state government were ongoing.
The group said its agitation is about equitable development and rotation, and urged residents across the three senatorial districts to support what it called a justice and inclusion agenda ahead of 2027.
