The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Lokoja Study Centre, has matriculated 150 newly admitted students at its 31st Matriculation Ceremony.

The ceremony, which brought together the newly admitted students, university officials, academic facilitators, parents and well-wishers, marked the formal admission of the matriculants into various programmes of the institution.

The Centre Director, Prof. Joseph Omada, urged the newly admitted students to maintain discipline and uphold the academic integrity of the university throughout their studies.

Omada particularly warned the students against examination malpractice, stressing the need for them to shun all forms of academic misconduct and rely on their knowledge and preparation during examinations.

He encouraged the matriculants to take their studies seriously, make effective use of the university’s flexible learning system and available academic resources, and remain committed to achieving their educational goals.

Among the 150 matriculating students is the proprietor of NationalWatch TV and Publisher of NationalWatch Newspaper, Alhaji Amuda Dan Sulaiman Fab, who was admitted into the university to further his academic pursuit.

The ceremony provided an opportunity for the university authorities to formally welcome the new students and remind them of the importance of discipline, dedication and commitment to their academic programmes.

Speaking on the significance of the occasion, the matriculants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to pursue higher education through the open and distance learning system, pledging to remain committed to their studies and uphold the values of the university.

The 31st matriculation ceremony marked another milestone in the academic journey of the newly admitted students as they formally commenced their various programmes at the National Open University of Nigeria, Lokoja Study Centre.

For Amuda Dan Sulaiman Fab, the occasion represented another step in his lifelong pursuit of knowledge and professional development, coming alongside his work in journalism and media.

His decision to return to the classroom reflects the growing importance of continuous learning in the media and communications industry. As a journalist and media proprietor, he has continued to combine professional responsibilities with a commitment to personal growth and academic advancement.

The matriculation also highlighted the value of open and distance learning for working professionals who seek to improve their knowledge while remaining active in their careers. The flexible structure of NOUN provides students like Fab with the opportunity to balance education, journalism and other responsibilities.

Fab’s admission is expected to further strengthen his understanding of communication, society and contemporary issues, areas that are closely connected to his work in news reporting, publishing and broadcasting.

The occasion was attended by members of the university community, relatives, friends and colleagues, who joined the matriculants in celebrating the beginning of a new academic chapter.

As the students settle into their programmes, they are expected to participate actively in their studies, meet the requirements of their various departments and uphold the standards set by the university.

The ceremony ended with renewed encouragement for the matriculants to remain focused, disciplined and determined, with the assurance that their commitment to education would contribute to their personal development and future contributions to society.

The event also served as a reminder that education remains a lifelong journey, capable of opening new opportunities and strengthening the capacity of individuals to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

With the commencement of the new academic session, the matriculants are expected to embrace the responsibilities that come with university education and make the most of the opportunities provided by NOUN’s open and distance learning platform.
