Teachers’ Day: CHRCR Urges Kogi Govt To Employ More Teachers, Declare State Of Emergency On Transport Sector

A pro-democracy group, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), has called on the Kogi State Government to urgently employ more teachers in basic schools and across all educational institutions in the state.
The group made the call in a press statement to commemorate the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul, in Lokoja on Sunday.
Comrade Miliki described teachers as great nation builders, noting that without teachers there would be no doctors, lawyers, engineers, judges, governors and presidents.
He said teachers deserve special treatment and better welfare, stressing that many schools across the state are in dire need of rehabilitation and improvement to create a conducive learning environment.
The CHRCR boss also decried the hardship being faced by students due to high fuel prices, calling on the state government to provide subsidized transportation across all 21 Local Government Areas to ease movement for students.
According to him, the transportation sector in Kogi has been completely abandoned to private operators while the Ministry of Transportation has failed to live up to its responsibility of alleviating the suffering of citizens.
“In the last ten years, the Kogi State Government has failed to improve transportation services. The inherited Confluence Transport Company is dead and its staff thrown into the labour market,” he lamented.
Miliki urged the current administration under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to declare a state of emergency in the transport sector and key into the Federal Government and other state governments’ initiatives aimed at cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal on the citizens.
He congratulated teachers in Kogi State and across the world on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, while urging government at all levels to prioritize their welfare.
