Tinubu’s wife empowers 500 women in Ebonyi

The first lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has empowered over 500 Ebonyi women with freezers, generators, industrial grinding machines, gas cookers among others to improve their means of livelihood.

The empowerement held at old government in Abakaliki was benefitted by women petty traders selected across the thirteen Local Government Areas of the State.

Speaking at the event, the first lady represented by the wife of Ebonyi State Governor Chief (Mrs) Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru said the objectives of the empowerement was to uplift the lives of rural women in the State.

She disclosed that the empowerement programme was going simultaneously across the five South-East States in Nigeria.

According to her, the programme was made possible through the office of the SSA to the President on sustainable development goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire. The initiative was first launched in Abuja for North central zone 1st February, 2025 followed by distribution of empowerements items to South West zone on 23rd August, 2025 and South South zone on 25th April, 2026.
She announced that over 18,000 women are expected to benefit from the programme with 500 beneficiaries in each State across the Country.
The first lady noted that the empowerement distribution was in a recognition of critical role women played in the nation building and it aligns with the renewed hope initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which prioritize inclusivity, economic growth and sustainable development for all Nigerians.
She encouraged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items to achieve its purpose.

Senator Tinubu appreciated Governor Francis Nwifuru for always supporting the implementation of all renewed hope initiative programmes in the State and thanked SSA sustainable development goals for her wonderful initiative to Ebonyi women.
Speaking on behalf of the Ebonyi State first lady, the State commissioner for women affairs and social development Barr. Felicia Nwamkpuma welcomed wife of the president to Ebonyi State and commended her for her continued support to the women of Ebonyi State.
She added that her office remains deeply committed to transforming the lives of Ebonyi women, as she had recently empowered over 52 women petty traders with #2000 to expand their businesses.
She assured the first lady that the beneficiaries would use the items judiciously.
The SSA to the President on sustainable development goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire noted that the empowerements was aimed at expanding economic opportunities for indigent and vulnerable women across the country in order to eradicate poverty, enhance economic growth and reduce inequality.
“We want to make our women more economic viable, put the items where it will be generating money to you, don’t go and sell. Put them into productive use for your own good” she said
Beneficiaries of the items promised to use it effectively for the good of their lives.
The event attracted the presence of the wife of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Chief Florence Odunwa and other political office holders.
