Abakaliki council chairman inaugurates councillors, tasks them on unity, service delivery

The executive chairman of Abakaliki local Government area, Hon. Chidiebere Onyemaechi Alo, has inaugurated the newly elected councillors and charged them to prioritise public service delivery, maintain peace, unity and work closely with stakeholders and the executive arm of government for accelerated development in their respective wards.
Speaking shortly after inaugurating the councilors at the council headquarters, Nkaliki, the chairman congratulated the councilors, urging them to see their new responsibilities as a call to service and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of Abakaliki Local Government Area.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation, mutual respect and productive engagement between the executive and legislative arms of the council, insisting that both must work together in the collective interest of Abakaliki people.
He charged them to discharge their duties with integrity, dedication, fairness and also carry all their stakeholders along in the scheme of things, warning them not to allow personal interests supersede public interests.
The council chairman stated that the councillors were elected to serve the people and must dedicate their time and resources to addressing the needs of the people in their wards.
He cautioned the councillors against engaging in conflicts with APC members in their respective wards, stressing the need for unity and peace in the party. “In APC, we don’t have division,” Alo said.
The council boss however, commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for his administration’s commitment and dedication towards improving the welfare of Ebonyi people and prayed God Almighty to give him more wisdom, good health and strength as he continue to impact on the lives of people of the State positively.
Earlier, the Clerk of the house, Comrade Sunday Nwambam Daniel, administered the oath of allegiance and oath of office to the councillors who pledged to uphold and defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and discharge their duties faithfully in the interest of the masses.
In a good will message, the former chairman of Abakaliki LGA who doubles as the APC candidate for Abakaliki South Constituency Hon. Emmanuel Nwangele, congratulated the councilors and urged them to work in synergy with the executive chairman and enact laws that would promote peace, prosperity and development in the local government area.
Nwangele assured that stakeholders in the local government would work harmoniously with the chairman and councillors to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
Also in his remarks, the former member representing Abakaliki North State Constituency, Hon. Oliver Nwachukwu, described the inauguration of the councilor as the completion of the democratic structure of the local government area, noting that the legislative arm plays a critical role in lawmaking.
He urged the councillors to make laws that would be favourable to the people and charged them to work in cordiality with the executive arm of the council in their own best interest.
Motion for election of Hon. Uchenna Nwojiji as a leader of the house was moved by Hon. Emeka Nwokpuru, seconded by Hon. Chika Nwenyi and was unanimously adopted by members of the legislative council. The house also elected Hon. Ngwaga Chukwuma as Deputy Leader.
Thereafter, the leader of the house, Hon. Uchenna Nwojiji announced the election of other principal officers of the house to include Hon. Emeka Nwokpuru, Majority Leader, Hon. Aloy Nwite, Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Chika Nwenyi, Chief Whip, and Hon. Sunday Nwankwo, Deputy Chief Whip.
In his acceptance speech, the leader of the house Hon. Uchenna Nwojiji thanked the executive arm and his honorable colleagues for the confidence reposed on him, assuring the chairman of express approval of his bills and full support to take the council to its desired destination.
The inauguration and swearing-in ceremony was attended by political office holders, community leaders, security agents, party faithfuls, family members and well wishers who gathered in their large numbers to witness the commencement of the new legislative leadership in the council.
