Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Eleta of Iyara, Oba Jacob Babatunde Meduteni, at the age of 75.
In a condolence message on Saturday, Senator Karimi described the monarch’s death as a painful and irreparable loss to the people of Iyara, the traditional institution, and Kogi State in general.
The Senator commiserated with the royal family, the people of Iyara, community leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders over the demise of the respected traditional ruler.
Senator Karimi eulogized Oba Meduteni as a monarch who dedicated his reign to peace, unity and the progress of his people, noting that his departure has created a significant vacuum in the community.
According to him, the late Eleta was not only a custodian of the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Iyara but also a father figure whose wisdom, counsel and commitment to the wellbeing of his subjects will be greatly missed.
“The passing of a monarch of Oba Meduteni’s stature is a moment of grief for the entire community. I urge the people of Iyara to remain united and draw strength from the enduring legacies of peace, harmony and service that the late monarch left behind,” Senator Karimi stated.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of Oba Meduteni, the royal household, the traditional council and the entire people of Iyara. He prayed to God to grant the late monarch eternal rest and to give his family and subjects the fortitude to bear the loss.
The Senator further called on the people of Iyara to uphold the values of peace, unity, communal harmony and development which the late Eleta championed throughout his lifetime.
Senator Karimi added that Oba Jacob Babatunde Meduteni’s contributions to the growth and stability of Iyara will remain etched in the history of the community, and that his memory will continue to live on through the institutions and people he served.
The death of the Eleta of Iyara has continued to generate tributes across Kogi West, with political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders and residents mourning the departure of a monarch widely regarded as a symbol of unity and tradition.
