Great nations are not built by people who surrender when the road becomes difficult. They are built by leaders and citizens who possess the courage, patience and determination to keep going.
Nigeria stands at another decisive moment in her democratic journey.
As the nation approaches the 2027 presidential election, the question before Nigerians is not simply who will occupy the Presidential Villa. It is a much deeper question: Will Nigeria remain on the difficult but necessary path of reform and renewal, or retreat into the comfort of policies that failed in the past to deliver the nation we desire?
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited a country confronted by formidable economic and structural challenges. His administration chose reform over hesitation, confronting difficult realities that successive governments had often postponed.
Such decisions inevitably brought hardship, criticism and political resistance. But history rarely celebrates leaders simply because they avoided difficult decisions. History remembers those who confronted difficult problems and possessed the courage to seek lasting solutions.
This is where the timeless wisdom of Proverbs 24:10 becomes profoundly relevant:
“If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.”
The message to Nigerians is clear: do not faint in adversity. Do not abandon the journey because the road is difficult. Keep going.
President Tinubu’s reform agenda should not be judged solely by today’s difficulties, but also by the Nigeria those reforms seek to build tomorrow.
Economic transformation is never instantaneous. Nations do not become prosperous overnight. Institutions take time to strengthen; investments take time to mature; infrastructure takes time to generate economic value; and major reforms require consistency before their full benefits become evident.
Japan rebuilt itself from devastation. South Korea transformed from poverty into a major industrial economy. Singapore rose from severe limitations to become a globally recognised economic centre.
These transformations were not achieved by abandoning every difficult policy whenever citizens experienced hardship. They were achieved through discipline, perseverance, strategic leadership, institutional development and long-term national commitment.
The strength to keep going does not mean pretending that every government policy is perfect. It means possessing the maturity to distinguish between temporary hardship and permanent failure; necessary reform and reckless policy; constructive criticism and political opposition driven solely by the desire for power.
Democracy demands accountability. Nigerians have every right to demand better governance, transparency and improved living conditions.
But responsible opposition must also offer credible alternatives.
Elections should be contests of ideas, programmes, competence and records, not merely contests of anger, propaganda and political desperation.
For the All Progressives Congress, APC, the 2027 presidential election should be presented as a choice about continuity, reform, stability and the future direction of Nigeria.
The party and its supporters must remain focused, organised and intellectually prepared to explain the administration’s policies and achievements to Nigerians.
Politics is not won by noise. It is won through people, ideas, organisation, communication, credibility and, ultimately, votes.
Nigeria’s present challenges should inspire neither hopelessness nor surrender. They should inspire prayer, wisdom, sacrifice, patriotism and perseverance.
Nigeria needs citizens who will refuse to give up on their country.
The 2027 election should therefore be approached with sobriety and a clear understanding of the stakes. Nigerians must ask:
Which political direction offers the greatest prospect of sustained national transformation?
Which leadership has demonstrated the courage to confront difficult national problems?
Which political platform possesses the organisation, experience and capacity to transform policies into enduring institutions?
These questions deserve thoughtful answers, not emotional slogans.
Renewed Hope is not a campaign slogan. It remains a continuing national project.
There will always be critics. There will always be political opponents. There will always be moments of doubt.
Political movements, like nations, are tested most severely when circumstances become difficult.
This is the time to remain committed to the vision of a stronger, more prosperous and more secure Nigeria.
President Tinubu’s reforms are intended to lay the foundation for a stronger Nigerian economy and more sustainable national development. The responsibilities is to remain focused, responsive and accountable, while the responsibility of citizens is to remain engaged, patriotic and hopeful.
As 2027 approaches, the message should be unmistakable:
Don’t abandon the journey because the road is rough. Don’t mistake temporary difficulty for permanent defeat. Don’t surrender hope because transformation takes time.
Let us keep praying for wisdom for those entrusted with the responsibility of leadership.
May God grant President Bola Ahmed Tinubu greater strength, wisdom, good health and more discernment.
May God guide the All Progressives Congress toward greater unity, discipline, organisation and service to the Nigerian people.
May God protect Nigeria from violence, division, hatred and political desperation.
May God bless our armed forces and security agencies, our farmers, workers, entrepreneurs, students and every Nigerian labouring for a better nation.
And may God grant Nigerians the wisdom, discernment and courage to make the right choice in 2027, one that advances the nation’s peace, prosperity, stability and development.
