Senator Sunday Karimi Named Best Performing Senator on Educational Support in North Central, to Receive Award Today in Abuja

Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has emerged as the Best Performing Senator on Educational Support Programs in North Central Nigeria.

The award will be formally presented to him today, today Wednesday 19th August 2026, at the 16th Annual Public Lecture and Induction into the Good Governance Hall of Fame organized by Democracy Newsline Newspaper at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.

According to the selection committee, Senator Karimi was chosen based on a 12-month independent assessment of legislative performance, constituency projects, and direct interventions in education across the North Central geopolitical zone.

The committee cited his massive investment in scholarships, provision of learning materials, rehabilitation of schools, and support for JAMB candidates by building CBT center in Egbe as key reasons for the recognition.

“Senator Karimi has consistently prioritized education as a tool for poverty eradication and youth empowerment. His interventions have touched thousands of students across Kogi West and beyond, making him stand out among his peers in the zone,” the citation read in part.

Some of the lawmaker’s notable educational interventions include:

1. Annual Scholarship Scheme – Full and partial scholarships for over 3000 students in tertiary institutions anunally.

2. Educational Infrastructure  Renovation of classrooms, provision of desks, ICT centers, and boreholes in selected schools.

Reacting to the honor, Senator Karimi dedicated the award to the people of Kogi West and to students who remain the real drivers of development.

“Education remains the greatest equalizer. This recognition will spur me to do more in ensuring that no child in Kogi West is denied access to quality education because of financial constraints,” he said.

The Publisher of Democracy Newsline Newspaper, Chief Olugbemi Femi noted that the award is part of the newspaper’s commitment to celebrating leaders who are delivering measurable impact in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The induction ceremony, which holds at 5pm will also honor other distinguished Nigerians for excellence in governance, security, and grassroots development.
