It is no longer news that the Chief Servant of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is worker friendly. His positive disposition to the workers of the state in the last two and half years of his administration attest to the fact that the governor places high priority attention to the welfare of workers in the state.
Only a few weeks ago, he donated one bus each to the executives of the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC). The governor said he took the move because of the immense contributions of the workers to the development of the state.
Since his assumption of office on January 27, 2024, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo normalized the payment of prompt salaries to both the state and Local Government workers. It is on record in the state as at today that salaries are promptly paid between 22nd and 24th of every month. This has gone a very long way in improving the welfare and productivity of the workers of the state.
Whereas workers in the past have no savings plans, the situation is different today as they can now predict when they will receive their salaries and plan adequately for their sustainace.
Of paramount importance is the fact that Kogi State workers have never gone on strike since His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo assumed office in 2024. The industrial harmony that exists between the workers and the state government is cordial thus paving the way for increased productivity and development in the state.
In spite of the numerous things the governor has been doing for the workers of the state, he is currently taking a move for the employment of fresh workers in the state. The move is aimed at employing new competent hands capable of adding value to the development of the state. Two, the move is also aimed at engaging Kogi State youths who have the prerequisite qualifications for the vacancies which will be spelt out soon.
When the governor finally opens the doors of employment in the state, it would help in no small measure in reducing vices in the state. An idle hand, they say, is the devil workshop but with a government job, the youths would be fully engaged and would have no room to perpetrate evil in the state.
Only recently, the governor engaged the state security guards on full pensionable employment. Forest guards have also been trained and engaged in the state. This singular measure has seen many youths in the state becoming useful to the state.
His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is not just worker friendly but has continued to match his words with actions. It is hoped that very soon the governor will give the go ahead for the employment of the indigines of the state into the state civil service.
His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo’s love for the workers of the state is legendary. As the state matches towards the 2027 general elections, it is safe to say that Kogi workers are fully prepared to return the governor to Lugard House for a second term in office.
