GUNMEN ABDUCT 6 PERSONS FROM GOVERNMENT SECONDARY SCHOOL ODO-EKINA DURING NECO EXAM

..Police Launch Manhunt, Rescue One Student_
Panic gripped Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina in Dekina Local Government Area on Tuesday evening after gunmen attacked the school while students were writing their NECO examination.
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed that the incident occurred on *Tuesday, 14th July 2026, at about 5:25 p.m.*
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, *ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat*, the attackers abducted four students, the school principal, and one NECO ad hoc staff.
“A combined team of the Police and other security agencies immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation and is currently on the trail of the assailants,” she stated.
She added that one of the abducted students has so far been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, *CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni*, the Brigade Commander, and the State Security Adviser to the Governor of Kogi State are currently en route to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.
ASP Afusat said a more detailed press release will be issued as soon as additional verified information becomes available.
Security agencies have urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information that could aid the rescue operation.
