…Says Rival Lacks Party Recognition, Urges INEC To Uphold Due Process
The Senatorial Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, for Kogi West Senatorial District, Rev. Zacchaeus Jonathan, has declared himself the party’s only authentic and duly nominated candidate for the 2027 general election.
Addressing journalists in Lokoja on Monday, Rev. Jonathan said he was the sole aspirant throughout the NDC nomination process for Kogi West.
According to him, he was the only aspirant who purchased and submitted the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms bearing the official code SD/066/KG. He added that he was also the only aspirant screened and the only participant in the party’s senatorial primary election.
“I was the only aspirant who fulfilled every requirement of the party’s nomination process. I purchased the nomination forms, underwent the screening exercise, and participated in the primary election that produced me as the party’s candidate for Kogi West Senatorial District,” he stated.
Rev. Jonathan said the primary was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines, in the presence of NDC officials and observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
He dismissed claims by one Muyiwa Fatosi to the NDC senatorial ticket, describing such claims as lacking recognition by the party. He maintained that the individual neither purchased nomination forms, participated in the screening exercise, nor contested in any duly constituted NDC primary election.
The NDC candidate urged party members, supporters, and the general public to disregard campaign posters and social media materials portraying any other person as the NDC candidate for Kogi West.
“The Nigeria Democratic Congress has a transparent and credible internal democratic process. Anyone claiming to be the party’s candidate without passing through that process is not recognized by the party,” he said.
Rev. Jonathan called on the leadership of the NDC at both state and national levels, as well as INEC, to uphold the integrity of the party’s nomination process by recognizing only candidates who emerged through lawful and transparent procedures.
He reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and credible leadership, noting that the party would continue to protect the mandate freely given by its members.
Speaking on his agenda for Kogi West, Rev. Jonathan pledged purposeful representation focused on tackling insecurity, youth unemployment, infrastructure development, economic empowerment, education, and improved healthcare across the seven local government areas of the district.
“We remain committed to building a better future for our people. I urge all our supporters to stay united and continue mobilizing peacefully as we work together towards victory in 2027,” he added.
