Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Kogi one of Nigeria’s safest corridors for road users, calling for stronger collaboration between governments and road safety stakeholders while donating 10 electric patrol motorcycles to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to enhance its operational efficiency.

Governor Ododo made the announcement at the Government House, Lokoja, while receiving the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, and his delegation shortly after he was invested as the Grand Patron of the Special Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Describing Kogi as the nation’s gateway connecting Northern and Southern Nigeria, the Governor noted that the heavy volume of traffic passing through the state places enormous responsibility on his administration to ensure safer highways, efficient traffic management and rapid emergency response.

He stressed that improving road safety remains a shared responsibility, urging stronger partnerships among the Federal Government, state governments and all stakeholders to reduce road crashes and protect the lives of Nigerians.

In a major boost to road safety administration in the state, Governor Ododo announced the elevation of the Senior Special Assistant on Road Safety Matters, Hon. Yusuf Suberu, to the position of Special Adviser, in recognition of his dedication, professionalism and outstanding contributions to advancing road safety initiatives across Kogi State.

The Governor also assured the Corps Marshal that all requests presented by the FRSC would receive favourable consideration, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to continue investing in infrastructure and logistics that enhance public safety.

As part of the government’s support for the Corps, Governor Ododo handed over 10 electric patrol motorcycles, explaining that the equipment would strengthen highway surveillance, improve emergency response time and enhance the operational capacity of the FRSC in safeguarding motorists.

The Governor dedicated his investiture as Grand Patron of the Special Marshals to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the honour reflects the President’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives, improving road infrastructure and promoting safer highways across Nigeria.

Earlier, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, commended Governor Ododo for his unwavering support for road safety initiatives and appealed to the state government to revive motor parks across Kogi to improve traffic management and eliminate indiscriminate parking.

Responding, the Governor disclosed that the motor park revitalisation initiative is already being implemented and is at an advanced stage of completion.

The Corps Marshal described the donation of the electric patrol motorcycles as a landmark intervention that would significantly enhance the Corps’ operational effectiveness, noting that the motorcycles would not only strengthen road safety operations in Kogi State but also contribute to safer highways across the country.
