Hands Off the People’s Mandate. Kabba/Bunu Rejects Attempts to Undermine APC Democracy
Recent comments attributed to Hon. Alfred Bello during a gathering in Lokoja have generated widespread concern among many members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi West. The reported criticism directed at the National Leader of our great party and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as well as Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke over political developments in Kogi West has been received by many party faithful with disappointment.
From our standpoint, such remarks are unnecessary, divisive and inconsistent with the ideals of party discipline, internal democracy and responsible political engagement.
Political disagreements are inevitable in any democratic society, but they should never become a platform for statements capable of undermining the unity and collective strength of the party.
The emergence of Senator Sunday Karimi as the APC senatorial candidate for Kogi West followed a democratic process in which registered party members exercised their constitutional right to choose their preferred candidate. That process was conducted under the rules of the party and supervised by the appropriate electoral authorities.
Every democrat is expected to respect the outcome of such a process, irrespective of personal preferences.
It is therefore our position that no individual should seek to delegitimize the freely expressed mandate of party members or create unnecessary tension within the APC. Democracy derives its legitimacy from the will of the electorate, and respect for that mandate remains fundamental to the stability and credibility of the party.
We also wish to state unequivocally that Hon. Alfred Bello’s reported remarks do not represent the collective views or aspirations of the people of Kabba/Bunu, Kogi West or Kogi State. The people of Kabba/Bunu are politically enlightened, independent in judgment and fully capable of speaking for themselves. No single individual possesses the mandate to project personal opinions as the position of an entire people.
Our communities remain firmly committed to the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and continue to appreciate the contributions and commitment of Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke to the progress of the APC and the development of Kogi State.
Our loyalty to the President, the leadership of our party and the Renewed Hope Agenda remains unwavering, unshakable and founded on shared political ideals.
As preparations continue for the forthcoming general elections, the people of Kabba/Bunu remain resolute in their determination to mobilize massive support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Sunday Karimi and all duly nominated APC candidates. We believe that party unity, respect for democratic decisions and constructive engagement are the surest pathways to sustained electoral success.
This is therefore a time for reconciliation, discipline and purposeful mobilization; not threats, divisive rhetoric or attempts to question the democratic choices made by party members.
The APC has always emerged stronger when its members place the collective interest of the party above individual ambition.
The future of Kogi West lies in unity, mutual respect and unwavering commitment to democratic principles. Those values must continue to guide our conduct as we work together to secure another resounding victory for our great party.
