Amb. Oladele John Nihi, Special Adviser on Students and Youth Matters to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, is a rare breed of youth leader making the next generation proud that there is hope. At a time when youth inclusion is more than a slogan, he has become the face of credible, results-driven representation in Kogi State and beyond.
Described by Governor Ododo as “a pride to Nigerian Youths,” and once captured by Dr. Folashade Ayoade Arike in the same light, Amb. Nihi has proven beyond reasonable doubt that when juxtaposed with his peers, he stands out. He embodies the exact mix of character, competence, and grassroots connection required to serve effectively as Special Adviser on Youth and Student Matters.
Amb. Nihi leads with integrity and credibility, “walking the talk” with clean hands and a reputation for honesty over opportunism. He demonstrates emotional intelligence in handling frustrated students, unemployed graduates, and diverse youth blocs, with patience, tact, and the ability to de-escalate tension.
Above all, Amb. Nihi is deliberate and intentional in his undertakings. His academic and professional grounding gives him an edge in policy and governance. He understands how government works, from budgeting and memos to executive council processes and how to push files for results. His track record in youth and student spaces is already established. From grassroots mobilization to leadership and project delivery, Amb. Nihi has built trust with students, young professionals, and community youth structures. He is not just an advocate; he is a doer, with evidence of programs that deliver skills, scholarships, dialogue, and empowerment, not just rhetoric. Strategically, he thinks in policy, communicates with clarity, and networks across divides. He can draft a brief on student bursary reform or skills acquisition for the Governor, address a hall of students without condescension, and engage development partners with confidence. His access cuts across tertiary institutions, youth entrepreneurs, civil society, and international youth platforms.
He also carries strong political and institutional awareness. While serving in a government led by Nigeria’s youngest governor, he balances loyalty to the Ododo administration’s vision with principled advocacy for youth interests. He works with pro-government, opposition, and apolitical students, keeping the office inclusive and effective. His soft assets set him apart.
Amb. Nihi is content, not compromised, which allows him to speak truth to power. He has a mentorship mindset, always opening doors for others. Through the Oladele John Nihi Foundation, OJN, he has expanded impact beyond policy rooms. The Foundation in this year’s annual OJN Annual Program unveil another flagship initiative with the maiden edition of the OJN Football Talent Tournament, as part of activities marking this year’s OJN Annual Symposium. The tournament is designed to discover, nurture, and support talented young footballers by giving them a platform to showcase their skills. Beyond competition, it promotes unity, teamwork, discipline, and healthy rivalry, while creating pathways to national and international exposure. It will be executed in partnership with Anchor Football Academy, bringing professional coaching, scouting, and mentorship to participants. The maiden edition is scheduled for 24th June to 11th July, 2026 at the Confluence Stadium, Zone 8, Lokoja. Football lovers, scouts, and families are expected to witness weeks of exciting action as the next generation of stars emerge from the grassroots. With this, the OJN Foundation cements sports as a key pillar of youth development, alongside education and empowerment.
The 7th edition of the OJN Annual Program has become more than an event. It is now a platform for reshaping the minds of youths. Young people within and outside Kogi State are already setting their sights on it, because it consistently delivers conversations, mentorship, and opportunities that prepare improved future leaders. At a time when Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the youngest governor in Nigeria, is driving youth inclusion in governance, empowerment, and leadership, Amb. Nihi’s role is pivotal. His recent participation as Vice President, West Africa, Pan-African Youth Union, PYU, at the 5th Pan-African Youth Forum organized by the African Union Commission in collaboration with PYU and hosted by the Government of Djibouti, further positions Kogi’s youth agenda on a continental stage.
