By joshua STATEMENT OF SUPPORT FOR HER EXCELLENCY, SENATOR OLUREMI TINUBU, CON, FIRST LADY OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, ON EMPOWERMENT OF PETTY TRADING WOMEN

I wish to publicly identify with and commend the position of Her Excellency, Distinguished Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on her unwavering commitment to support petty trading women through the non-refundable grant of ₦50,000.00, despite unnecessary criticisms.
Her Excellency’s clarification speaks to the reality of our markets: “I know they have been talking. I said Akara, it’s not only Akara. We also have tomato sellers, we have Boli (Roasted Plantain), and those selling pepper, selling vegetables in the market, we’ll continue to empower them.”
This statement is both compassionate and practical. These Women form the backbone of our local economy. They rise before dawn, trade under sun and rain, and sustain households with very little capital. A ₦50,000:00 grant is not charity – it is an investment in food security, family welfare, and grassroots commerce.
I align completely with Her Excellency’s resolve when she said: “I know all those who are affected will appreciate it, and we are not intimidated by all those wrong reports.” True leadership is not swayed by noise when the people’s needs are clear.
In the same spirit, I also advocate for and support the empowerment of our “Moimoi sellers, Corn (Maize) sellers, Groundnut sellers, and Kulikuli sellers” in the markets and by the roadsides. They too deserve inclusion in all empowerment programs designed for micro-traders.
I urge critics to visit any market in Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Oyo or Rivers at 6:00 AM. The Women Her Excellency is fighting for are already there – working. Let us support them, not discourage efforts to lift them.
