Across Lokoja 2 State Constituency, the name Rt. Hon. Umar Yusuf Aliyu, popularly called “Assignment”, has become synonymous with service delivery and visible impact. As Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly and Member representing Lokoja 2 Constituency, he has proven that representation is about results, not rhetoric. Three years into his tenure, constituents say without hesitation: he is the legislator we never regret voting.
In all five wards of Lokoja 2 – Kupa North, Kupa South, Kakanda, Oworo Eggan, Rt. Hon. Assignment has spread development fairly. From building of bridges and lighting of inner roads, renovation of primary health centers, provision of solar streetlights, and sinking of boreholes, to the distribution of empowerment materials to traders, artisans, and women groups, every ward has felt his presence. His ward-to-ward interactions with constituents have also made governance accessible to the grassroots.
Infrastructure has been a major focus. Assignment has facilitated the rehabilitation of classrooms in public schools, construction of drainages to curb flooding in lowland areas, and the provisions of farm inputs. Security support, in the form of patrol motorcycles and communication aids for local vigilantes, has also strengthened peace across the constituency.
However, the area where Rt. Hon. Umar Aliyu stands tallest is education. Understanding that education is the ladder out of poverty, he has made students of Lokoja 2 his priority. Through his support to students who are ready to study. Not forgetting the free JAMB forms to students, scholarships, and donation of learning materials every year.
Tertiary students are not left out. Hon Assignment has consistently paid bursaries and scholarships to students of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education who hail from Lokoja 2 and beyond.
Beyond financial support, he has renovated and equipped schools, facilitated teacher training workshops in public schools across the five wards. His insistence that “no child in Lokoja 2 should drop out because of money” has increased school enrollment and retention. These interventions have built a generation that sees him as more than a politician but a true guardian of their future.
With such a record, the mood in Lokoja 2 is already set for 2027. Across all five wards, youth groups, women associations, market leaders, and student bodies have openly declared their readiness to return Rt. Hon. Umar Aliyu “Assignment” for a second term. For them, continuity is key because a legislator who delivers infrastructure, restores hope to students, and never forgets his people deserves another mandate to do more.
