By joshua NAKOSS PRESIDENT CONDEMNS ILUKE ATTACK, CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE SECURITY REINFORCEMENT IN SCHOOLS ACROSS KOGI STATE

The National President of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), Comrade Sunday Adeola Simon, has strongly condemned the heinous attack that occurred in Iluke-Bunu, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, where armed assailants reportedly targeted students sitting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at UBE JSS, Iluke-Bunu.
The tragic incident, which claimed the lives of the school’s Vice Principal and two other innocent citizens, has thrown the entire community into mourning and heightened fears among students, parents, and education stakeholders across the state. Describing the attack as barbaric, heartbreaking, and a direct assault on the future of Kogi State, Comrade Adeola stated that educational institutions must never become targets of criminal activities.
According to him, it is unacceptable that students should be compelled to pursue their education and sit for examinations under the shadow of fear and insecurity. He stressed that schools are sacred environments dedicated to learning, character development, and nation-building, and must never be transformed into hunting grounds for criminals.
The NAKOSS President expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased, the management and students of the affected school, and the entire Iluke-Bunu community. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the victims and for divine strength and comfort for their loved ones during this difficult period.
Comrade Adeola called on the Kogi State Government, through the Ministry of Education, to urgently collaborate with the Kogi State Security Trust Fund and all relevant security agencies to establish a comprehensive and sustainable security framework for schools across the state. He emphasized the need for the immediate deployment of security personnel to vulnerable schools and examination centres, strengthened intelligence gathering, enhanced surveillance mechanisms, and a coordinated response system capable of preventing future attacks on educational institutions.
He noted that the growing wave of insecurity across the country is already disrupting academic activities, discouraging school attendance, and negatively affecting the psychological well-being and academic performance of learners. According to him, no meaningful educational advancement can be achieved in an atmosphere where students and teachers live in constant fear for their lives and safety.
While commending the efforts of the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, in addressing security challenges across the state, the NAKOSS President urged the Governor to take more decisive and proactive measures to guarantee the safety of students, teachers, and school communities. He further called for a thorough investigation into the attack and the swift apprehension and prosecution of all those responsible.
Comrade Adeola reaffirmed the commitment of NAKOSS to advocating for the welfare, security, and educational advancement of all Kogi State students. He maintained that the protection of students and educational institutions must remain a top priority for government and all stakeholders, stressing that the future of any society depends on the safety, education, and well-being of its young people.
