Rev. Surveyor Zacchaeus Jonathan has emerged as the leading contender for the Kogi West Senatorial seat on the platform of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His growing profile is being driven by a reputation for service, community development and grassroots engagement built long before he sought public office.
A registered Surveyor with a Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, GIS, from the University of Ibadan, Jonathan combines academic depth with professional and leadership experience. His background spans academia as a former lecturer at Kaduna Polytechnic, organized labour as a former chairman of PENGASSAN, and years of community interventions across Kogi West.
Unlike politicians whose records start after election, Jonathan’s impact predates his political ambitions. His interventions include facilitating the Ganaja Junction Bridge project, establishing a primary school for displaced Bassa and Gbagi families, providing ICT support to Government Secondary School Agbaja, and training youths in digital skills in partnership with Google and Jobberman. He also supported erosion control projects around local mosques and vulnerable communities.
Though he previously contested under the ADC, NNPP and Labour Party, Jonathan has retained a consistent support base. His appeal cuts across youths, community leaders, professionals and grassroots stakeholders who see him as a leader defined by results, accessibility and commitment to public service.
