Funeral prayers for the late Onogie of Afemai Lokoja, Alhaji Zakariyau Ahmadu Dangana, held on Saturday at the Lokoja Central Mosque with a solemn call on Muslims to make preparation for the hereafter their priority.

Leading the Janaiza prayer, the Chief Imam of Lokoja Central Mosque, Alhaji Aminu Shaban, described the deceased as a man who made prayers and strict adherence to the tenets of Islam his guiding principles throughout his life.

He reminded the congregation that life, no matter how long, is short, urged Nigerians to make good deeds and upright conduct part of their daily living.

The funeral prayer drew a large gathering of people from all walks of life who converged on the Central Mosque to pay their last respects.

Mourners described the late Onogie as detribalized, a bridge between communities, and one of the early builders of modern Lokoja.

They noted that it was his passion for the growth and development of the Kogi State capital that earned him the title as Onogie of the Afemai people in 2020.

Among those in attendance were the representative of the Maigari of Lokoja, Members of the Traditional Council, Captains of Industry, Politicians, Management and Staff of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Members of the Afemai Community, and well-wishers who came to bid the traditional ruler farewell.

The remains of Alhaji Zakariyau Ahmadu Dangana were later conveyed to his hometown for interment in accordance with Islamic rites, as the Afemai community and the people of Lokoja mourn the passing of a father, elder statesman, and custodian of unity.
