By joshua Kwara CP Cracks Down on Police Misconduct, Warns Officers Against Abuse of Power
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, has issued a stern warning to officers and men of the command, declaring that misconduct, indiscipline and abuse of authority will no longer be tolerated within the Nigeria Police Force.
The police commissioner delivered the warning during a strategic meeting with Deputy Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders and other senior officers across the state.
Adekimi said the directive aligns with the position of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, stressing that every officer must uphold the highest standards of professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their duties.
“The era of impunity is over,” the CP declared, adding that all personnel must conduct themselves in a manner that protects the integrity and image of the Force.
He cautioned officers to be mindful of their actions and utterances while on duty, noting that technological advancements and the widespread use of social media have placed law enforcement personnel under constant public scrutiny.
According to him, any officer found engaging in misconduct, incivility, extortion, harassment, abuse of authority or any act capable of tarnishing the reputation of the Force would face strict disciplinary measures in line with police regulations.
The commissioner also educated officers on the Nigeria Police Force’s social media policy, warning against the unauthorized release of official information and online activities that could compromise operational security or damage the image of the Force.
“Careless online conduct, unauthorized dissemination of official information and activities capable of undermining operational security or the image of the Force will attract appropriate sanctions,” he warned.
As part of efforts to strengthen community policing and improve security across the state, Adekimi directed all DPOs to deepen engagement with religious leaders, school proprietors, principals and other key stakeholders within their jurisdictions.
He said stronger collaboration between communities and the police was necessary to safeguard schools, places of worship and other vulnerable public locations from emerging security threats.
The CP reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and intelligence-led policing, assuring residents of Kwara State that the police would continue to prioritise the protection of lives and property while enforcing discipline among its personnel.
