Plot to Suspend Sen. Sunday Steve Karimi Over Alleged Anti-Party Allegations Surfaces

Kogi West APC stakeholders have raised fresh concerns over a deliberate plot to suspend Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West, for alleged anti-party activities, describing the move as politically motivated and dead on arrival.

In a statement signed by Abu-Rajaun Oyewole Idris, the stakeholders said the plan is surfacing shortly after Senator Karimi emerged as the APC flag bearer for the 2027 Kogi West Senatorial District election.

According to the Statement issued to Newsmen, Party officials in Kogi West are being coerced to gather signatures for the purported suspension, in a manner similar to what was attempted against the Senator representing Kogi East. Sen. Jibrin Isah Echocho

The stakeholders insisted that Senator Karimi’s legislative performance and loyalty to the party cannot be faulted for supporting President Tinubu, APC to warrant his suspension.

Since 1999, his representation in Kogi West has been described as unequalled, with impact and accomplishments that stand out across the senatorial district.

Beyond Kogi West, Karimi has also made significant inroads in drumming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress across Kogi State.

One of his most visible contributions is in education. Senator Karimi currently pays scholarships and bursaries for 3,000 students of Kogi State origin in higher institutions across the country, building on similar gestures he has sustained for students of Kogi West in the last two years.

Within Kogi West, his interventions have directly met the yearnings and aspirations of the people, which stakeholders said explains why his popularity across the district remains organic and deeply rooted.

They argued that any attempt to suspend a Senator of his calibre would only weaken the unity and cohesion of the party in the state and create avoidable distractions ahead of 2027.

The stakeholders therefore called on President Tinubu to intervene and call to order those behind the planned suspension. They stressed that Senator Karimi’s efforts in galvanizing support for the President and the APC have remained unrivaled, and that the action of the sponsors is geared towards undermining a performing lawmaker whose loyalty and service to President Tinubu and the party are beyond question.
