Kogi West APC Primary: Abejide Denies Role in Alleged Candidate Substitution
The camp of RT Hon Leke Joseph Abejide has denied allegations linking the lawmaker to the controversy trailing the Kogi West All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election.
In a rebuttal issued by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Bode Kayode, Abejide described the reports circulating online as false, malicious and politically motivated.
Kayode stated that the lawmaker neither participated in the Kogi West APC senatorial primary process nor played any role in the alleged attempt to alter or substitute the name of any candidate.
According to him, Abejide, who is the APC candidate for the House of Representatives in Yagba Federal Constituency, does not hold any national executive position within the party and therefore lacks the authority to influence the emergence or replacement of a senatorial candidate.
The statement maintained that the lawmaker has remained neutral in all issues relating to the APC primaries in Kogi State and enjoys cordial relationships with all aspirants involved in the contest.
“It is mischievous and misleading to associate Hon. Abejide with claims of candidate replacement or manipulation of the Kogi West senatorial primary result,” the statement noted.
Kayode further accused unnamed individuals of orchestrating a smear campaign aimed at damaging the lawmaker’s image and political reputation.
He urged members of the public to disregard the reports, insisting that Abejide’s focus remains on the development of Kogi State, particularly Kogi West and Yagba Federal Constituency.
The statement added that the lawmaker is committed to peace and democratic values and should not be drawn into controversies surrounding the APC senatorial primary election in the state.
