As APC members across Kogi West file out for the primary election to select their flag bearer for the National Assembly, one name resonates with unmatched clarity across the seven local government areas: Senator Sunday Karimi.
In football, they say you don’t change a winning team. In Kogi West, the consensus is clear. The district has found a representative who understands the assignment, delivers results, and stays connected to the people. To replace him now would be to interrupt momentum that is already transforming communities.
Senator Karimi’s years in the Senate have been defined by one thing: service you can see. From water and rural roads to light, education, agriculture, and youth empowerment, his interventions have touched every corner of the senatorial district. He has broken ceilings, set new benchmarks, and proven that legislative performance is measured not in speeches, but in projects that change lives.
The scale of his impact speaks for itself. In Kogi LGA alone, he attracted an unprecedented N1.3 billion rehabilitation of GSSS Koton Karfe, giving thousands of students a learning environment worthy of their future. Across Lokoja, Kabba Bunu, Ijumu, Mopa, Yagba East and Yagba West, classrooms have been rebuilt, water projects commissioned, agricultural support extended, and empowerment programmes delivered to women and young people.
This is not accidental. It is the product of a man who understands both the legislative process and the needs of his people. Born on March 10, 1962, in Egbe, Yagba West, Senator Karimi rose from humble beginnings through discipline and hard work. A Production Engineer by training with a Higher National Diploma with Distinction from Kwara State Polytechnic, he spent years in the private sector before politics. He built Atlantic Drilling Fluids Services Limited into a reputable indigenous firm executing water projects for federal and state governments, creating opportunities for hundreds along the way.
His public service began in the classroom as a Further Mathematics teacher in Isanlu, before a nine-year stint as an engineer at DICON. Elected into the House of Representatives in 2011, he became the first lawmaker in his federal constituency to be re-elected in 2015, a testament to the trust he earned through purposeful representation. In February 2023, Kogi West entrusted him with a senatorial mandate, and he has not disappointed. As Chairman, Senate Committee on Services, he has sponsored bills and motions with direct impact on education, security, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, and rural development.
What sets him apart is his reach. Senator Karimi is a name known in every ward and polling unit across Kogi West. His politics is not about distance or noise, but about presence and delivery. His constituents see him as one of their own, a leader who listens, acts, and accounts for his stewardship.
The reward for hard work is more work. With APC remaining the dominant party in Kogi West, returning Senator Karimi for a second and final term is the surest way to consolidate the gains of the last few years and attract even more democratic dividends. The district needs continuity, experience, and a representative who has already proven he can deliver under pressure.
