KOGI LABOUR PARTY STAKEHOLDERS SET APRIL 26 FOR STATE CONGRESS, ZONE EXECUTIVE POSITIONS
… Party leaders decry lack of national directive, condemn alleged attempt to impose executives_
Stakeholders of the Labour Party in Kogi State have fixed Saturday, April 26, 2026, for the conduct of the State Elective Congress in Lokoja, amid concerns over the absence of guidelines from the party’s National Headquarters.
The decision was reached on Friday during a meeting of the Kogi State Labour Party Political Commission held at the residence of its Chairman, Comrade Habuh-Rajan.
The gathering brought together key party leaders from across the state, including Hon. Shettima, Hon. Osori, Hon. Pastor Henry, Comrade Raphael, Pastor Okpe, and Comrade Ephraim Medupin.
Participants expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of preparations for the congress at both local government and state levels, and criticized what they described as the National Headquarters’ delay in communicating modalities for the exercise.
The meeting also condemned what it termed an attempt to impose state executives, stressing that “politics is essentially local” and that grassroots stakeholders must be carried along in the process.
To ensure a smooth congress, the stakeholders unanimously adopted a zoning arrangement for state executive positions across the three senatorial districts. Kogi West was allocated the Chairmanship, Publicity Secretary, and Auditor positions, among others; Kogi East secured the Secretary, Financial Secretary, and Legal Adviser roles; while Kogi Central got the Treasurer, Youth Leader, and Welfare Officer positions.
Each senatorial district was mandated to deliberate and nominate candidates for the allocated offices during the upcoming congress.
The stakeholders urged members to remain committed to the resolutions and avoid past mistakes that could undermine party unity in the state.
