AN OPEN LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR OF KOGI STATE, ADDRESSING THE POWER CRISIS
Dear Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo
I am writing to you today regarding the epileptic power supply plaguing Kogi State, specifically the actions of those in charge of KEDL In Kogi Central. When the public learned of Kogi State’s efforts in buying/taking total reaponaibility of electricity generation and distribution, we were optimistic and celebrating, given that you have an Experience as a NEPA staff and your reputation for being accessible. Myself and many others, hoped this would alleviate the hardships faced by the average citizen.
However, since mid January, we have experienced erratic power supply, Particularly in Kogi Central. While I understand that other regions may be facing similar issues, this doesn’t seem to be the case in Kogi State, as some areas continue to enjoy a stable electricity supply with a lower billing while areas with little or no electricity supply are forced to pay higher . Myself with other responsible youths from Kabba Junction (okene), organized a peaceful protest, which was commended by security experts for its organization and peaceful conduct in recent time to regiser our grievance and its 10 days after there was no improvement or response from the KEDL management.
During my investigation, the Branch Manager of AEDC/KEDL, Mr. Dominic, cited the need for state government support to improve the situation (this point was Misunderstood by many and currently spreading that the BM said Kogi state Government is responsible and that nothing is wrong with the Electricity). Given the lack of response from both the state government and KEDL management, I implore you, as the chief servant of Kogi State, to consider the pain of the common people. This is particularly crucial as we are in hot season, coinciding with Ramadan and Lent. It is unfair to endure such hardships, especially while paying high electricity bills.
I must acknowledge your administration efforts in prioritizing the welfare of civil servants, which has been a welcome development.
However, the current power situation is prone to undermines these efforts, impacting businesses, healthcare, and the overall quality of life of all citizens. We, the people of Kogi State, particularly kogi central cry to you to ensure a reliable and affordable power supply.
