Seeks Resumption of Renegotiation with University-Based Unions
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Federal University Lokoja Branch, has written to the Federal Government of Nigeria, urging immediate resumption of renegotiation with university-based unions.
Key concerns the say include:
– Unresolved welfare issues affecting university workers
– Outstanding entitlements, including:
– Promotion arrears
– Wage award
– 25/35% arrears
– Delay in concluding the Yayale Ahmed renegotiation committee with SSANU
The union warns that failure to return to the negotiating table may lead to industrial action. SSANU says it however remains committed to constructive engagement, hoping to avert disruption in the Nigerian university system.P

Subject: Call for Immediate Resumption of Renegotiation with University-Based Unions
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Federal University Lokoja Branch, wishes to express its concern over the continued delay by the Federal Government of Nigeria in resuming the renegotiation process with university-based unions.
For a long period, the union has exercised patience and remained committed to dialogue. However, key issues affecting the welfare of university workers, including the renegotiation of agreements and settlement of outstanding entitlements, remain unresolved.
It’s is disappointing to note that uptil date, Yayale Ahmed renegotiation committee with SSANU has not been concluded and othe entitlement of the union like promotion arrears, wage award, 25/35% arrears among others are still outstanding.
Our members are increasingly becoming impatient with the prolonged delay and lack of visible progress on these matters.
We therefore call on the Federal Government to urgently return to the renegotiation table with the relevant unions to address these concerns. Failure to do so within a reasonable timeframe may compel the union to consider appropriate industrial action in line with established labour procedures.
SSANU remains committed to constructive engagement and hopes that prompt government action will help avert avoidable disruption in the Nigerian university system.
