2027 Politics: Stakeholders in Kogi Prioritises Tinubu, Karimi Re-election
A political bloc aligned in Kogi State has thrown its weight behind the re-election bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Steve Sunday Karimi, citing strategic considerations linked to the quest for power equity and inclusive leadership in the state.
The endorsement was announced in a statement signed by Pastor Stanley Omoniyi Ajileye, who said the decision followed an extensive review of the political environment, especially the proximity of the Presidential and National Assembly primaries.
According to the group, the next phase of political engagement demands discipline and proper sequencing of priorities. While acknowledging widespread interest in the Kogi State governorship race scheduled for November 2027, the statement stressed that the immediate focus must remain on the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The group described President Tinubu as a stabilising force at the centre, arguing that continuity in federal leadership would enhance Kogi West’s political leverage and provide a more favourable climate for engaging on issues of equity and justice within the state.
On the Senate race, the supporters identified Senator Karimi as a critical asset to the struggle for power rotation in Kogi State. They noted that his consistent and outspoken advocacy for Kogi West has distinguished him as a leading voice for fairness and inclusion, adding that his return to the Senate would further consolidate the zone’s influence at the national level.
The statement clarified that the endorsement of Tinubu and Karimi does not signal a retreat from the agitation for a Kogi West governorship. Instead, it framed the move as a tactical consolidation aimed at building political capital ahead of the decisive phase of the struggle.
It further disclosed that organised advocacy for the Kogi West governorship would recommence from January 17, 2027, immediately after the presidential election, when alliances and momentum would have been firmly established.
As part of the mobilisation effort, the group announced the formation of a temporary campaign platform dedicated to coordinating support for the Tinubu–Karimi re-election drive, urging members and supporters across the state to work in unity and with clear purpose.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the group’s commitment to the broader struggle for power equity, noting that strategic patience and collective action remain essential to its eventual success.
