Kogi Govt Commissions Equipment to Boost Food Security and Environment.
The Kogi State Government has commissioned land restoration and waste management equipment, reaffirming its commitment to food security and environmental sustainability.
The event, held at Buhari Civic Center, Lokoja, was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, and community members.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, represented by Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engr. Joseph Oluwasegun, stated that the commissioning demonstrates the administration’s sense of purpose and commitment to the people.
The equipment includes 1 swamp buggy, 23 tractors, 400 plastic waste bins, 20 tipping tricycles, and 30 galvanized waste bins, aimed at reducing environmental hazards and promoting sustainable economic growth.
The Commissioner noted that the equipment will open up riverine communities for large-scale farming and fishing, previously hindered by water hyacinth plants.
The project is a collaborative effort with ACReSAL and the World Bank, addressing land degradation and climate change issues.
Project Coordinator, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto-OON, highlighted the project’s achievements, including empowering 90 communities and 150 farmers, and establishing two Green House facilities for vegetable production.
The event featured goodwill messages and the formal commissioning of the equipment.
