Prof. Ogbo Hands over safer, stronger, more stable, and forward looking
Prof. Usman Salisu Ogbo, the 7th substantive Rector of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has finally handed over the mantle of leadership to Professor Sanusi Salihu Avidime, pointing out that he is handing over a Polytechnic that is safer, stronger, more stable, and forward looking.

The Rector in his speech marking his formal handover, said he administered the Polytechnic for almost six years, from 7 Apml, 2020 to 11th February, 2026, called for support for the new Rector

He appreciated Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo for his reappointment for a second term and also for appointing him as the 6th Vice Chancellor of the Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba.

Prof. Ogbo profoundly appreciated His Excellency, the People’s Servant of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for the love and trust reflected on him for the re-appointment as Rector and for graciously appointing him as the 6th Vice Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.

Prof. Ogbo said he was guided by the 3Rs philosophy of Repair, Reform, and Restore, said with the unwavering support of the Kogi State Government, Council, staff and students, he was able to rebuild confidence, restore order, and reposition the Polytechnic for sustainable growth.

He noted that under his leadership security and sanity were fully restored to the campus, bringing an end to cultism, fear, and disorder.

Similarly, he said academic integrity was strengthened through e-governance, secure result and certificate systems, prompt release of results, and improved quality assurance mechanisms.

“For the first time in the history of the Polytechnic, annual reports were institutionalised to document our progress and preserve institutional memory”.

“One of our most remarkable achievements was the successful accreditation of all academic programs culminating in a historic 100 percent Full Accreditation”.

The Polytechnic he added also witnessed the introduction of new Schools, new academic buildings, lecture theatres, laboratories, hostels, a modern health centre, a security complex, and environmental improvements across both Lokoja and Itakpe campuscs

Students he said were successfully returned to campus accommodation after several years of absence. Staff welfare he added also received priority attention through the recruitment of new personnel, implementation and cash-backing of outstanding promotions, as well as improved working conditions. The Alumni Association he noted was revitalised, new directorates were created to strengthen governance, and a comprchensive Strategic Plan (2025-2030) he said has been put in place to guide future development.

The outgoing Rector said he is handing over a Polytechnic that is on a solid footing, urge the incoming Rector, to consolidate on the gains, deepen reforms, and take the institution to greater heights.

He respectfully appeal to staff, students to extend to the incoming Rector the same cooperation, loyalty he enjoyed during his tenure.

In his remarks, the incoming Rector, Professor Sanusi Salihu Avidime, expressed appreciation to the outgone Rector for all the accomplishments witnessed in the institution, promised to sustain the trajectory.

He warned against gossips, rumor mongering and other tendencies that will be counter productivity in moving the institution forward, assured to build on the success recorded by the outgone administration.
