SSA on Students’ Affairs Clears Air on School Shutdown in Kogi State
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Kogi State Governor on Students’ Affairs, Comr. Omonu Joshua, has clarified the circumstances surrounding the recent shutdown of primary and secondary schools across Kogi State, assuring the public that the decision was purely preventive and taken in the overall interest of safety.
Recall that the Kogi State Government had earlier ordered the temporary closure of schools across the state, a development that generated concerns among parents, students, and education stakeholders.
Speaking during an interview with the National Press of Igala Students Association, Comr. Omonu Joshua explained that the school shutdown was based on credible and actionable intelligence. According to him, the decision was not borne out of panic but was a proactive and responsible step aimed at strengthening security measures around schools.
He noted that the temporary closure was taken to safeguard pupils, students, teachers, and educational institutions, stressing that the present administration chose to act decisively rather than wait for avoidable incidents.
“The decision to temporarily shut down schools was preventive and informed by timely intelligence. The Kogi State Government has once again demonstrated its commitment to qprioritising the safety of our children, teachers, and educational institutions. This administration will always prioritise lives while ensuring continuity in governance and education,” he said.
Comr. Omonu Joshua further commended the state government for its responsiveness to security concerns, describing the move as a clear demonstration of responsible leadership.
In his reaction, the President of the Igala Students Association, Comr. Adukwu Vincent, applauded the SSA on Students’ Affairs for clearing the air and reassuring the public, especially students, thereby easing tension and dispelling fears.
Comr. Adukwu Vincent also commended the Kogi State Government for its prompt response to security challenges across the state, particularly those affecting students, reaffirming the association’s support for policies and actions aimed at protecting lives and sustaining educational activities.
