Police Dismiss Viral Video of Alleged Protest Assault in Kwara as Fabricated

Ilorin – The Kwara State Police Command has debunked claims of an assault at the Government House gate during a protest on December 27, 2025, describing the widely circulated video as digitally manipulated.

A forensic examination of the footage confirmed that it had been spliced, combining unrelated violent scenes with shots from a peaceful demonstration to create a false impression of unrest. Investigators also noted that some images shared online in connection with the incident originated from unrelated events that occurred months earlier.

Efforts by the police to locate the two women allegedly assaulted in the video have been unsuccessful, and no formal complaints have been filed, despite repeated public appeals for victims to come forward.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, emphasized the need for proper notification and coordination of public demonstrations, saying, “Prior communication with the police allows us to provide adequate security, prevent hoodlums from hijacking protests, and ensure the safety and rights of all citizens.”

The Kwara State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining public order while urging Nigerians to verify the authenticity of information before sharing it online.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, added, “We remain dedicated to protecting the fundamental rights of all citizens and caution the public against spreading misinformation that can cause unnecessary panic.”
