Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room Quarterly Dialogue: Police Vow Strong Protection for Women, Youths, Vulnerable Groups in Kogi’s 2027 Elections.
LOKOJA — The Kogi State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding women, youths, and vulnerable groups during the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The assurance came from Commissioner of Police Naziru Bello Kankarofi Mni at a dialogue session organized by the Challenged Parenthood Initiative, in partnership with the Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room and the Women’s Electoral Engagement and Governance Coalition (WEEGC), with support from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
The quarterly dialogue, held at OJN Foundation Hall, Lokoja, brought together representatives from INEC, security agencies, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance inclusivity and boost women’s participation in the electoral process.
Representing the Commissioner, CSP Williams Ayah, acknowledged the large turnout of women and youths during elections and affirmed that the Command has established and trained an electoral team with clear instructions on policing elections. He warned political actors planning violence to “stay clear of the state,” noting that past perpetrator regardless of status, will face the full weight of the law.

The Police promised to ensure a safe, inclusive, and transparent electoral environment.
Speaking at the session, Ms. Abimbola Eunice Agbogun, Executive Director of Challenged Parenthood Initiative, highlighted the pivotal role of INEC and security agencies in building confidence among women, youths, and vulnerable groups, who have previously been discouraged by election‑related violence.
Representatives from the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps also pledged to support the protection of women voters, candidates, and election officials, emphasizing the urgency of the dialogue in addressing current challenges.
The dialogue underscored the need for continuous engagement and practical strategies to curb violence against women and youths, encouraging their active participation in the 2027 general election.
