PDP Kogi Chairman, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, Demands Immediate Completion of Abuja‑Lokoja Road, Declares “National Emergency” on the Highway

Lokoja — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman for Kogi State, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, has called on the Federal Government to expedite the completion of the long‑overdue Abuja‑Lokoja highway.

In a statement issued on Monday, Gambo described the road’s dilapidated condition as a “national crisis” that has turned a two‑to‑three‑hour journey into a two‑to‑three‑day ordeal for commuters.

He warned that the prolonged neglect of this critical artery not only exacerbates traffic congestion and accidents but also fuels insecurity, as stranded travelers become easy targets for bandits and kidnappers.

“For a nation battling insecurity, allowing such suffering and clustering of people is a serious lapse,” Gambo said, urging all tiers of government to declare a state of emergency on the road.

Gambo’s appeal follows recent parliamentary concerns that the Federal Ministry of Works has moved at a snail’s pace on the rehabilitation of the Gwagwalada‑Abaji‑Koton‑Karfe‑Lokoja expressway, a key route linking the Federal Capital Territory to the North‑Central and Southern regions.

Lawmakers have already urged the Ministry to open blocked sections immediately, especially during the upcoming Christmas period, to ease travel woes.

The Kogi PDP chairman emphasized that swift action on the road is essential not only for humanitarian reasons but also to safeguard economic activities that rely on the highway for transporting goods, petroleum products, and agricultural produce.

He called on the Federal Government, the National Assembly, and relevant security agencies to prioritize the project in the next national budget and to ensure its rapid completion.
