
Lokoja‑Abuja Road A Nightmare – Traditional Ruler Calls for Emergency Status, Faster Completion.

KOGI STATE, Nigeria – The Paramount Ruler of Igu Kingdom, Alhaji Dr. Salisu Akawu, Ohimegye Igu Koton‑Karfe, has condemned the severe hardships faced by motorists and commuters on the Lokoja‑Abuja highway, describing the situation as “horrible.”
Speaking amid a prolonged gridlock that has left travelers stranded for days, the Traditional Ruler urged the Federal Government to declare the road an emergency given its critical role as a link between Nigeria’s northern and southern regions.
While acknowledging ongoing construction efforts by the Federal Government, Alhaji Dr. Akawu lamented that the project has lingered for over two decades, demanding accelerated action to end the chronic suffering and loss of manpower and resources.
He expressed sympathy for passengers enduring the avoidable ordeal, especially during the current festive season, and emphasized that the hardship is one too many.”
The Ohimegye also commended the personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other agencies working round‑the‑clock to alleviate the traffic jam, while calling for greater road discipline and cooperation from drivers and commuters.
In addition, he thanked the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo for partnership initiatives aimed at easing the congestion and appealed for a swift, decisive intervention by the Federal Government to bring lasting relief to travelers on the corridor.
