NLC protest against insecurity: Ododo Assures Labour Kogi citizens of adequate security of lives, property

 

The Governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has assured workers and Kogi citizens, that his administration will continue everything under the law to secure the lives and property of the people of the state.

The Governor who Stated this on Wednesday, while receiving workers, led by the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC) Comrade Gabriel Amari, who are protesting the rising insecurity in Nigeria, noted that Kogi state under his leadership has made appreciable progress in containing insecurity in the state.

The protesting NLC members were received on behalf of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, by his security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara RTD

Governor Ododo, while referencing the achievements of his administration in the fight against insecurity, said only yesterday, large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered by the combined team of security operatives in the state.

According to him his administration has invested huge resources in securing the lives and property of citizens and those on transit across the state, through the provision of operational vehicles and other logistics to aid the operations of security agencies in the state.

“We are investing huge resources in security in the state. We have provided operational vehicles and other logistics to aid the operations of security personnels in Kogi State. We will continue to do that until we are able to eliminate criminal elements from our communities.

“Only yesterday, we uncovered large cache of arms and ammunition from criminals hideouts. We will continue to go after them. Kogi will not surrender to criminal group or groups. We are already winning the war with the active support of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

“We are also soliciting special Security votes, because of the complex location of Kogi. Kogi is bordered by about ten states including the federal capital territory. Those criminals displaced from neighboring states are infiltrating our State. We will surely contain them. We will never negotiate our freedom with criminals.He asserted.

Workers in Kogi State under the auspices of the Nigeria Labour Congress ( NLC) had joined their counterparts across Nigeria to observe the nationwide protest called by the Congress national body against insecurity in the country.

The Kogi workers were led in the protest by the State NLC Chairman, Gabriel Amari.

The workers who took off at the Zenith Bank junction , Lokoja, few minutes after nine in the morning, walked in procession to Lugard House, in Lokoja where they delivered a letter to Governor Ahmed Ododo.

The workers carried a large banner denouncing insecurity in Nigeria.They also displayed posters containing various inscriptions on the state of insecurity in Nigeria.The messages included: “End Insecurity now; FG, Actions and not Excuses ; Enough is Enough, Insecurity must stop.” among others.

The workers also rendered various labour songs to charge the procession .

The State NLC Chairman read the letter and later delivered it to the Special Adviser on Security matters.

Part of the messages contained in the letter read by the NLC Chairman urged Federal Government to work in conjunction with traditional rulers to reactivate the Neighbourhood watch to tackle insecurity at community level.
