ADC: Leke Abejide: An Inconsequential Irritant Political Mole

By Abdulmalik Suleiman
Life presents varying scenarios in man’s search for progress and development. While some elements within a given space and time strive for, legacy and progress, others for reason best known to them opt to play the spoiler.
This aptly describes the prevailing political reality in the main populist opposition party, the African Democratic Congress, ADC as one unknown quantity is working to derail the progressive match of the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
It is no news that prominent opposition leaders have opted to adopt the ADC as the preferred choice platform with which to dislodge the All Progressives Congress, APC from power.
Since the coming together of these political heavyweights, the political atmosphere prevailing in the country has changed significantly away from the hitherto one party rule to a much expanded multi-party democracy.
The likes of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, Sen Tunde Ogbeha, not to mention former Senate President, Senator David Mark as well as Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
This is not to discountenance the roles played by scores of other notable such as Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi, Abubakar Malami, Sen. Dino, Bolaji Abdullahi and scores of other leaders who have made some notable and significant contributions to the current momentum the ADC is currently gathering across the country.
It is very disheartening and sad that rather than be part of the epoch making momentum, the likes of Leke Abejide, the lone member of the ADC in the lower legislative chambers have opted to play the spoiler role.
Abejide in his warped reasoning has continued to take steps that run contrary to the developmental aspirations of the patriots trying to prime the ADC to become the darling of Nigerians and the preferred platform to change the current underdevelopment, corruption and maladministration of the country occasioned by APC’s misrule.
The overall objective is to hand the party to the APC or to weaken it with a view to making the reelection bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has never hidden his disdain for opposition politics.
Unfortunately for Abejide, he has a formidable task of outdoing giants and experience names earlier mention above who are too well entrenched in the polity to contend with.
Coming down to Kogi State, it would be foolhardy for Abejide a neophyte who is a political lizard to square up to a crocodile such as the revered Ogheha who is miles ahead of him in many ways of human endeavours.
Apart from the significant disparity in age, Ogbeha, a member of Lokoja traditional council has coming with him, significant positive record in public service compared to Abejide’s only accomplishment of winning a seat in the National Assembly.
Moreover, whatever the likes of Abejide think they are enjoying today, was the the labour of patriot like Ogbeha.
It’s no more hidden truth, that the creation of Kogi State was spearheaded by him and amazingly, Ogbeha has never brag or take an advantage of it. Also, I doubt, if Abejide was done with his elementary school when Ogbeha was appointed governor of two (2) very important states. The defunct Bendel state which now comprises of Edo and Delta states respectively, he was subsequently deployed to Akwa Ibom state as the first governor of that state.
Ogbeha is an easy going leader, simple and humble and in all, a Godly man.
It is imperative to urge Abejide to be cognizance of the verdict of history and retrace his steps by doing what is right in the interest of the state and the country.
